In January 1949 Alan was accredicited by The British Horological Institute as  a Craft Member registration number 3072. Alan received his diploma from Sir Harold Spencer Jones, F.R.S.,MA.,ScD.,F.R.A.S who was the president of the Institute and also the H.M Astronomer Royal.
