 The case is of fine quality using the finest mahogany flame veneers.

The trunk has a short style locking door hinged from the right.

 

 

The hood is finished with two swan neck pediments rising to the feature center,

both pediment caped with mahogany caps.

 

The movement has heavy plates and four ringed pillar supports.

 

An 8 day duration it drives a lunar moon, date dial and

a seconds hand.

 

 

The dial is signed Joseph Williams Rochdale.

The moon roller rotates showing lunar calender above.

Below the 12 o'clock is the seconds dial with the calender date shown at

the bottom.

The corners of the dial  show four seasons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

About Joseph Williamson 

 

Joseph Williamson of Rochdale appears in the 1855 trade directory as trading at 30 Yorkshire St, Rochdale as a watchmaker, clockmaker, jeweller and optician. He was at that address from about 1848 until he died in 1872. The premises of 30 Yorkshire Street were "opposite the White Swan".

Joseph Williamson was born on the 29 Nov 1819 in Rochdale, Lancashire and in 1843 at the age of 24 he was married to Celia Butterworth in Rochdale.

For the 1851 census Joseph Williamson (31) a married watchmaker was living at 30 Yorkshire Street with visitor Sarah Butterworth (32) a schoolmistress and a general servant. Celia does not seem to be listed in this census.

In the 1861 census at 30 Yorkshire Street are Joseph Williamson (41) watch and clockmaker with wife Celia (39) and three visitors:- Richard Whitworth (54) lard refiner, Mary C. Whitworth (50) and Frank Duerden (5) plus a house servant.

The 1871 census returns have Joseph Williamson (51)at 57 Sheriff Street, Rochdale working as a watchmaker with wife Celia Williamson (49) and a house servant.

Joseph died in December 1872 at the age of 52, and on the 28 December 1872 there was a sale of stock of "the late Joseph Williamson"
